An RFID location system uses drones equipped with FEIG’s RFID readers, to read a passive UHF tag placed on the dashboard of vehicles and correlate that data to the GPS coordinate of the automotive company’s staging lot
Duluth, GA — March 26, 2019 — FEIG ELECTRONICS, a leading global supplier of RFID readers and antennas, announced today its partnership with Congruex (formerly CCLD Technologies) to combine passive UHF RFID technology and Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) Services for capture asset location.
The partnership was created to meet the demand for a faster and more effective solution in the automotive industry. The location system provides drones equipped with FEIG’s RFID readers. The UAV reads a passive UHF tag placed on the dashboard of the vehicles and correlates the data to the GPS coordinate of where the vehicle is located in a vast staging lot. The information is then wirelessly transmitted to a cloud-based system for personnel to quickly locate a specific vehicle required for delivery. Other use cases have been identified to read and locate assets at ports and construction sites.
“The manual process for a worker to park the vehicle and record a car’s VIN number to a parking space was inefficient and slow and the infrastructure required for a real-time location system (RTLS) proved to be too costly,” said Brett Burke, Vice President of Congruex Business Development. “Our new Passive RFID UAV Solution solves the problem for the automotive industry, developing a quick, innovative, method to identify and correlate vehicle to parking space that saves time and money and provides flexibility.”
Our drones (or UAV) are equipped with FEIG’s MRU102 reader designed for wireless communication with transponders according to the air interface standard EPC Class1 Gen2 combined with the FEIG ANT.U270/270 circular polarized antenna allowing the identification of transponders in different orientations.
“We are excited to partner with innovative companies like Congruex, who have twenty years of proven ability to develop new and improved integrated solutions, to solve the industry’s technical and logistics challenges. Their know-how and our fifty years of experience building state-of-the-art, great performing RFID products is the perfect partnership for a successful implementation,” said Manuel Haertlé, Senior Product Manager for FEIG ELECTRONICS.
